Joseph A. Smith (1895-1978) was an avid collector of railroad photos, sharing many of them with fellow collectors in the Northeast. A former plumbing contractor, he presumably developed his interest in railroads through his father James H. Smith, a trolley motorman in Troy, NY. His extensive collection focused on the lines that once served Troy: Delaware & Hudson, Rutland, Boston & Maine and New York Central.

Car 832 is in the Pittsburgh Electric Railway Club’s “Arden Short Line Electric Railway” Museum, near Washington, Pa.
This West Penn Railways “Curved Sider", first used on Allegheny Valley Street Railway, later, in 1937, on West Penn at Connellsville, Pa. Built by Cincinnati Car Co., 1930.

Car 4398 is one of several trolleys owned by Pittsburgh Electric Railway Club’s Arden Short Line Electric Railway Museum, near Washington, Pa.
